01 / About the Project

Project overview.

Help employees submit travel requests and managers review policy requirements and approve travel in one application.

Challenge

Complex travel requests

Simplify travel submission and approval for employees and administrators while helping existing users adopt the redesigned application.

Goal

Clear approval steps

Help employees submit complete travel requests and give approvers the booking and policy details needed to make decisions.

Result

Faster requests & approvals

Testing showed shorter submission times, faster management approvals, and increased adoption, with positive feedback from staff.

02 / User research

User needs.

Extensive stakeholder interviews and user testing identified three priorities: clearer travel requests, easier approval reviews, and stronger adoption among managers.

01

Employee needs

Guide employees through a simple process for submitting complete, detailed travel requests.

02

Administrator needs

Help administrators review travel requests and policy exceptions, then quickly approve or decline.

03

Maximize adoption

Help managers become familiar with the application and build confidence through continued use.

03 / UX & Interaction Design

Workflow design.

The design connected booking details, employee input, and approval actions.

Travel requests

Employees could review and edit their trip’s purpose, itinerary, fares, and any policy exceptions in clearly organized sections. A traveler summary and step-by-step navigation helped them complete the request.

Request review

The request queue sat beside traveler details, policy exceptions, and approval controls so administrators could review and act in one workspace.

Approval decisions

Approvers could compare fares without leaving the request, then approve or decline with a reason for the employee.

Mobile approval

Mobile views kept traveler, itinerary, and policy details available through review and approval, dividing dense information into manageable screens.

I developed an innovative left–right swipe interaction for declining or approving travel requests.
